First, Christian or Given names are generally influenced mainly by the culture of a particular country. In the US, the biggest melting pot of them all, influences come from literally everywhere. From Anglo-Saxon and Celtic names that have their origins in ancient England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Through European French, Germanic and Slavic to Middle eastern and influences from the Indian subcontinent. African and South American names have their influences too although again they take heavy leads from Western Europe in both language and culture. Names from eastern cultures like China, Japan and Indonesia don't seem to have made it out of the immigrant population to any great extent possibly due to the difficulty in crossing the languages.
